Rising from the foundation of evangelism health and spiritual health will be ministry health. When evangelism happens and lost sinners are expressing faith in Christ, the church grows evangelistically. And, when God’s people are learning from God’s Word, the church grows spiritually. A spiritually growing church will be a serving church. The presence of God’s Holy Spirit in the lives of His people guarantees this: “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal” (1 Corinthians 12:7).
Every believer has the ability to manifest the presence of God’s Holy Spirit in ways that are profitable for the church. This element of health in the church is vital, for without it, the subsequent elements of health - worship, body, and sacrificial health - can’t happen. To say it a different way: evangelistic health is where we come to know and love God through the gospel of Christ. Spiritual health is where we come to know and love God’s Word. Ministry health is where we come to know and love God’s people, the church.
Something is seriously wrong when a professing believer has little desire to serve Christ in some way. The same can be said for the church. Churches with ministry health obey God by serving, and God does great work in and through them.
